Training on MEDDIC qualification with an AI simulator

Knowing the MEDDIC method isn't enough: you also have to make it work in the meeting, facing someone who won't hand over their information. The BizCoach AI MEDDIC simulator has you practise qualification out loud, as many times as it takes.

Key takeaways

MEDDIC in two minutes

MEDDIC is a qualification framework for complex B2B opportunities. In short: Metrics (the value indicators for the customer), Economic buyer (who holds the budget), Decision criteria and Decision process (on what criteria and through what process the decision is made), Identify pain (the real issue that justifies acting) and Champion (your internal ally). The goal: decide fast whether an opportunity is worth pursuing, and secure the ones that count.

This page is not a course on the method. If you want to dig into MEDDIC, connect it to your discovery work and adapt it to your sales cycle, that is Kestio's job: see the method and support programme on kestio.com. Here we are talking about something else, complementary and often overlooked: training yourself to qualify.

Knowing the method is not enough

Most sales reps can recite the six letters of MEDDIC. Far fewer can make them work in a live meeting. Because in real life, nobody walks you through their decision process or spontaneously introduces you to their budget holder. The prospect stays vague, changes the subject, or answers something else entirely. Qualification isn't a checklist: it's a conversation where you have to ask the right questions, at the right moment, without putting anyone on the defensive.

This is exactly the shift from theory to practice that separates education from training. You can read ten guides on MEDDIC: until you've said out loud ‘How was that decision made last time on your side?' to someone who dodges the question, you don't know how to qualify. That's where the simulator comes in.

How the simulator makes you practise qualification

The MEDDIC simulator is one of the voice simulators in the BizCoach AI sales training ground. It plays a realistic contact in a live opportunity, and your sales rep has to fill in every MEDDIC criterion by leading the exchange. The simulator makes nothing easy: it acts as a sparring partner, available at any hour, staying vague until the question is precise enough.

Qualification is a cross-cutting skill: it builds directly on the discovery phase, and the precise vocabulary for each criterion is detailed in our sales training glossary.

The classic objection: “The decision-maker? That's complicated right now”

This is the question that stalls the most qualifications: identifying the Economic buyer. When your sales rep asks who signs off on the budget, the prospect often answers: “The decision-maker? That’s complicated right now.” Many stop there, note “decision-maker unknown” and keep pursuing an opportunity that will never close.

The simulator works on exactly that follow-up. Rather than giving up, you reframe from another angle: “On this kind of investment, who gives the final green light?”, “How was the decision made the last time you bought a similar tool?”, “Who should you present the project to internally to move it forward?”. The sales rep repeats the sequence until they master it, calmly, with nothing at stake. That is what nothing else allows: replaying the same tricky moment ten times over.

We launched BizCoach in Challenge mode at our Sales Kick-Off with 150 sales reps. The enthusiasm was immediate: the teams got caught up in it, scores climbed in real time. It's the first time a training tool has generated this much excitement. Sales Director, Thales, Division Mobile Connectivity Solutions

Débrief Meeting: objective feedback after every session

After each session, the Débrief Meeting led by an AI Coach runs the conversation through the six MEDDIC criteria: which ones were captured, which stayed vague, where the sales rep let go too early. Feedback is no longer subjective or dependent on who gives it: it relies on the same grid from one session to the next, which makes real progress measurable.

Ahead of a real sales meeting, Prep Meeting works the same way to frame the criteria still open on a given opportunity. Simulator training and field meetings feed each other. A manager can steer the whole thing, in the spirit of the coaching manager: AI for volume of practice, humans for team dynamics.

This approach draws on the experience of Kestio, a sales performance firm since 2005, with over 800 clients supported and around a hundred certified coaches and experts: the method on one side, the training ground on the other. You can explore all the simulators on the home page or browse all our resources.

Frequently asked questions

What is the MEDDIC method?
MEDDIC is a qualification framework for complex B2B opportunities: Metrics (value indicators), Economic buyer (budget holder), Decision criteria and Decision process (decision criteria and process), Identify pain (real issue at stake) and Champion (internal ally). It helps you know whether an opportunity is worth pursuing. To dig deeper into the method, see kestio.com.
How can you practice qualifying an opportunity with MEDDIC?
By practising out loud with someone who does not hand over information spontaneously. The BizCoach AI MEDDIC simulator plays that part: it dodges questions about the decision maker, stays vague on budget, and forces the sales rep to ask the right questions to fill in every criterion. An AI Coach then debriefs which criteria were covered and which were missed.
What to do when the prospect dodges the decision-maker question?
Faced with a “The decision-maker? That's complicated right now”, you don't give up: you rephrase differently (who signs off on the budget, who has already settled this kind of topic, how the decision was made last time). The simulator lets you repeat this follow-up until you master it, without risking a real opportunity.
